Certified translation for Paraguay residency: rules and registration
Short answer
Migraciones requires Spanish translations of foreign-language documents for temporary residency. It accepts a public translator registered in Paraguay or one authorized in the country where they work; translations made abroad must also be apostilled or legalized. Documents issued in Portuguese by Brazil are exempt from translation for this procedure. Check your residency route and the translator’s authorization before paying.
When you need a translation
The Migraciones rule for temporary residency covers documents in a foreign language. Its published exception applies to Portuguese-language documents issued by Brazil. Other residency routes may use different lists, so check the page for your specific application.
Check the translator’s authorization
-
Ask for their registration
For someone working in Paraguay, request the full name and registration with the Corte Suprema de Justicia.
-
Confirm with the court
The Secretaría General says these translations are valid when the translator is on its roll. Its public roll link returned an error on September 26, 2026; contact the Secretaría General directly before hiring.
-
Translation done abroad
Migraciones accepts a public translator authorized by the competent authority where they work if the resulting translation is apostilled or legalized.
Original document and translation
- A foreign document needs an apostille or legalization according to its country of issue.
- For a translation completed abroad, Migraciones also requires the translated version to be apostilled or legalized.
- If you will use a Paraguayan translation abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes a process through the court’s Secretaría General and then the ministry. Confirm the receiving authority’s requirements.
What to ask before paying
We found no single public rate for every translation or standard delivery time. Both depend on the job and the translator.
- Send a readable copy and name the procedure and receiving authority.
- Request a written quote covering language pair, page count, deadline, copies and any legalization.
- Check the current Migraciones list before paying for apostilles or shipping.
